The Myrtle Beach Classic will debut in 2024. The event is sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach and will be played at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

“We are thrilled to announce the debut of the Myrtle Beach Classic, an exciting new playing opportunity for our members in one of our country’s most recognised and visited destinations,” said PGA Tour president Tyler Dennis. “With its incredible passion for golf, the Myrtle Beach community is a natural fit to bring this tournament to life.”

The Myrtle Beach Classic will be a part of the tour’s regular season schedule and marked as a full-field additional event, to be played in the same week as a designated event. The event will boast a purse of $3.9 million and award 300 FedEx Cup points to the winner.

The Dunes and Beach Club in South Carolina has previously hosted events on the PGA Tour Champions circuit and served as the site of the 1973 Q-School Finals, where Ben Crenshaw took medallist honours.

The Myrtle Beach Classic will be the second tour stop in South Carolina, following the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head. The tour had previously played events at Congaree the past two years in the Palmetto Championship and CJ Cup, although both events were considered one-offs.

The PGA Tour is expected to release its full schedule for 2024 within the next 30 to 60 days. Next season’s schedule will begin in January rather than an autumn start. The fall series will now be used for players who finish outside the top 70 in this year’s FedEx Cup standings to solidify their tour cards for 2024.

That’s what makes this latest full-courter all the more impressive, because of the fact it came from a regular Clemson college student at the Tigers game vs. Louisville on Saturday. Not only did he have zero experience, but they gave him an absolutely whack, 1950s putter. Chris Carns had everything working against him and was still able to walk away $10,000 richer. Well done sir.
