Now eyes are turning to Miami for the ground-breaking showdown between the 12 teams of four who have been battling it out all season long over seven events to sort out the pecking order for the $50 million finale at Trump National Doral.

After the seven strokeplay competitions, the set-up changes for the Team Championship, so let’s take a closer look at how it works for the three-day knockout event from October 28-30.

After only five LIV Golf events, the sport has entered a new era – one designed to be daring and different,” said LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner Greg Norman. “The Invitational Series finale, played at the fan-favourite Blue Monster at Doral, is befitting our game-changing model that delivers an innovative, one-of-a-kind experience for players and fans. I’m looking forward to this monumental event that will harness the beloved traits of team golf and head-to-head rivalries in a historic setting.”

So far, points have been awarded to teams based on their finish at each tournament, with values ranging from 32 points (first place) to 0 (9th-12th). At the conclusion of this season’s seventh event at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Jeddah, the final team standings determine seeds 1-12 for the Team Championship event in Miami.

HOW IT WORKS

Friday, October 28 – Quarterfinals

• Teams seeded 1-4 will receive a bye
• Teams seeded 5-12 will compete in head-to-head match-play competitions
• Highest-ranked teams select their opponents
• All 32 players amongst those eight teams will compete simultaneously in a shotgun start
• For each head-to-head team match-up, three matches will take place: two singles matches and one alternate-shot (foursomes) match
• Matches will be played until a winner is determined; there will be no ties. Each match winner receives one point
• Teams earning two points will advance to Saturday’s Semi-finals

Saturday, October 29 – Semi-finals

• Teams seeded 1-4 will join the winning four teams from Friday for another day of head-to-head team match play
• Highest-ranked teams select their opponents
• All 32 players amongst those eight teams will compete simultaneously in a shotgun start
• Teams compete in the same format as Friday: two singles matches and one alternate-shot (foursomes) match, with each match winner receiving one point
• Matches will be played until a winner is determined; there will be no ties
• The four teams earning two points will advance to the Team Championship

Sunday, October 30 – Team Championship

• The four winning teams will compete in a shotgun-start round of stroke play
• All 16 players will compete in twosomes, with Team Captains playing together
• All four scores count towards the team’s score
• At the end of Sunday’s round, the squad with the lowest team score is the LIV Golf Invitational Series Team Champion

The LIV Golf Invitational Series took another huge step on Tuesday as it confirmed Trump National Doral Miami as the host for the season-ending Team Championship set for October 27-30.

The Blue Monster will stage the seeded four-day, four-round, match play knock-out event featuring 12 teams competing for $50 million. The Team Championship is the eighth and final event on the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series schedule.

“There could not be a more perfect location to host our biggest event of the year at a course with such a long history with professional golfers, and we are excited to add another piece of history to this famed destination,” said Greg Norman, CEO & Commissioner of LIV Golf. “I am very much looking forward to October to watch these teams go head-to-head to compete for the largest prize purse in tournament history. As we continue to select locations for our events in world-class cities, we knew Miami had to be included in the rota, and the Blue Monster is a fan favourite and a perfect place to end our inaugural season.”

Remastered by Gil Hanse in 2014, the famed Blue Monster is one of the legendary courses in America having hosted professional elite events for 55 years. Stretching over 7,600 yards, the course features a series of strategically placed deep bunkers, long flowing fairways, interesting undulating greens, deep Bermuda rough and a challenging assortment of water hazards — all of which combine for a course that requires both length and finesse to score well. The famous 18th hole is traditionally ranked as one of the most difficult by touring professionals.
