As expected, the first round of the Zozo Championship at Sherwood Country Club is the PGA Tour’s latest birdie-fest. One bad hole and you’re going to lose a ton of ground on the field. If you hit a shank off the planet like Jon Rahm did on Thursday, you might as well head straight to the parking lot.

Then again, we’re talking about Rahm, one of the great escape artists in the sport. But not even Rahm, who could take over the World No. 1 ranking with a win this week, could save himself after this shot, right?

WOAH. That thing is gone. Dead. See ya. No coming back. Warm up the jet.

Just kidding. Rahm miraculously made bogey after hitting it to, as PGATour.com refers to it, “unknown.” The Spanaird punched it back out into the fairway in front of the water, leaving himself with a 78-yard wedge shot in. After putting his fourth to four feet, he rolled in the bogey putt, then promptly made birdie two holes later. He’s currently three-under on the day, which puts him just a few shots off the lead. Should he stay in contention all week, we’ll be seeing a few replays of this one on Sunday.
