No sport on earth does worst-kept secrets quite like golf. The NBA gives it a run for its money and God only knows what happens in professional curling, but nothing breeds whispers, rumour and hearsay quite like a sport where you literally have to whisper. Of all of golf’s unspoken certainties, however, none has been more obvious (or hilarious) in recent years than the identity of the infamous @useGolfFACTS Twitter admin.

Our big brothers at Golf Digest have dug deep into the suspiciously pro-Patrick Reed Twitter account in the past, and while no official conclusions were reached (Pat doesn’t need another lawsuit on his hands, let’s be honest), the overwhelming consensus is that the mastermind behind @useGolfFACTS is none other than Reed’s wife Justine.

This has been neither confirmed nor denied by the Reeds, but in the wee hours of Monday morning we got the closest thing to an admission yet when a joke about Justine’s, um, specific taste in sporting-event seating prompted this instantly iconic reply:

These look like nice seats to me! pic.twitter.com/l0hO5GDbrH

— GolfFACTS (@useGolfFACTS) April 17, 2023

This isn’t exactly Paul Bremer saying “Ladies and gentlemen, we got him.” It’s not the FBI finding Whitey Bulger kickin’ it in Santa Monica, but in the weird, wild, insular world of Golf Twitter, it’s pretty darn close.

The tweet by No Laying Up’s Tron Carter specifically references Justine Reed’s outburst following a 2018 Boston Red Sox game, in which she characterized their premium baseline seats as the “line-drive section” and slammed the PGA Tour for providing the tickets (for the record, all 30 MLB teams instituted netting in 2018). With Patrick Reed seen taking in an Australian rules football game ahead of LIV Golf’s Adelaide stop this week, the waters were ripe for fishing and @useGolfFACTS—either unthinkingly or simply because they do not care anymore—gobbled up the bait.

Perhaps this won’t be the end of the saga. Part of us even hopes it’s not, if only for the laughs. But if this is truly the pulling of the curtain—the ‘Wizard of Oz’-ian reveal we have long pined for—then there’s nothing to say but congratulations. In today’s day and age, where everyone knows everything about everybody in three clicks and a swipe, Justine—or whoever—had a hell of a run.

By Christopher Powers
Despite the weekly craziness that takes place on Golf Twitter, golf fans are actually a much simpler bunch than you think. Give us golf shots, golf swings, discussion about golf shots and golf swings, and maybe a little behind-the-scenes footage, and you won’t find many complaints. Case in point, this video of Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm chatting about the golf swing at the Scottish Open:

Just two golfers talking golf ? @JPProAm | #JPProAm2022 pic.twitter.com/9UM6qGCyWM

— DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) July 5, 2022

That clip is fast approaching 1 million views in 24 hours. Of course, it certainly helps that it is the GOAT and a former World No. 1, but it still goes to show just how simple our brains actually are. Just two guys talkin’ golf is all we’re asking for, provided the two guys are insanely good at it.

“Do you still, on your Trackman stuff, do you still hit up on the face?” Woods asks. “Oh yeah,” says Rahm at the beginning of the clip. “If you think about it, when you turn your chest it’s going to go up,” Rahm adds. “So, when I’m swinging my best, I’m somewhere between one-and-a-half and three, and the ones I try to hit high I’m at four.”

We’re not positive what numbers Rahm is referring to, but it feels like a safe assumption that it’s the angle of his clubface at impact since that seems to be what they are discussing. Part of what makes these clips so good is trying to figure out what it is they are discussing, though.

RELATED: Viktor Hovland without clubs at Scottish Open, has the worst travelling luck

What makes this. particularly great, however, is the fact that Rahm made reference to Woods’ reluctance to share advice with him back at the Masters in April. It should be noted that Rahm was more speaking to advise about how to play Augusta National, which Woods apparently only doles out to his best bud Justin Thomas:

pic.twitter.com/rycHpxfThL

Based off the clip from the Scottish Open on Tuesday, Rahm is finally breaking down the Tiger Woods wall, or at least slowly chipping away at it. As if the Spaniard wasn’t good enough already, he’s now getting long-awaited tips from a 15-time major champion. Watch out, JT.

By Alex Myers
The advent of Twitter has made us aware of some jaw-dropping scores out there, particularly around this time when every low handicapper thinks they have a chance to qualify for the US Open. But what happened in a mini-tour event on Wednesday was about as wild a result as we’ve seen. Well, that we’ve heard about, that is.

As is the case with many of these occurrences, we were made aware of this remarkable situation by Fire Pit Collective’s Ryan French (AKA Monday Q Info) on Twitter. The score in question isn’t particularly high or low. It’s a 75 shot by a pro golfer named Cameron Starr in a Minor League Golf Tour event.

So what’s the big deal? Well, see for yourself:

This is in no way hyperbole.

Today on the Minor League Tour @cameron_starr5 shot maybe the best 75 in history of mini-tour golf.

He was ELEVEN over thru 5 holes.

He also made at least one…eagle-birdie-bogey-double-triple-quad.

Hang it in the Louvre @shanebacon pic.twitter.com/Fn8634sJHe

— Monday Q Info (@acaseofthegolf1) May 25, 2022

We’ve seen plenty of 42-33s, but this is on another level. As you can see, Starr shot four over for the round despite being 11 (ELEVEN) over through five holes. That’s basically impossible. Usually golfers who are 11-over through five holes wind up shooting triple digits. OK, not usually, but every time. That’s just a remarkable comeback. That’s Justin-Thomas-at-the-PGA-Championship level grit.

Obviously, Cameron, has some ability. He just forgot that he had any ability for those first five holes in the opening round at The Florida Club, where a $6,000 purse is on the line. Starting on No. 6, though, he went birdie-birdie-eagle before making his first par of the day on No. 9. He added four more birdies against just one bogey on the back. Wow. Just wow.

After, Starr was proud of at least getting to check off one career goal:

https://twitter.com/cameron_starr5/status/1529601180577431552

Yep, Cameron, you made it. By making the craziest 75 in golf history.

There are a few very specific things that get all of Golf Twitter riled up in unison, and the majority are on-course occurrences. An opening birdie for Tiger Woods, a “Jordan Spieth is BACK!” birdie-birdie-birdie run, a Rory McIlroy charge, etc. Amazingly, none of those instances send people rushing to their phones quite like an off-course, Anthony Kim sighting.

These days, AK sightings are few and far between, which makes each one more special than the last. Our latest AK-in-the-wild photo dropped on Friday, and it sent Golf Twitter into its usual frenzy. Here’s the photo, posted by Kim’s longtime swing coach Adam Schriber with the caption “2021 is going to be special”:

What does it mean? Who knows. Like everything with AK, it’s left to our collective imaginations. We haven’t seen him play professional golf in eight years. Are we to believe that THIS picture of all pictures means he’s coming back? We’d advise not getting your hopes up.

And still, Golf Twitter is ready to be hurt again:

By the way, this wasn’t the only photo of AK making the rounds. Here he is (allegedly) with former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops:

taking a picture of Bob Stoops that accidentally includes Anthony Kim is like taking a selfie on a hike and getting Bigfoot in the shot pic.twitter.com/eIhhtzQxBA

— Dylan Dethier (@dylan_dethier) January 2, 2021

Again, we have no idea what it all means (Kim was probably in Dallas watching his Alma Mater drill Florida in the Cotton Bowl), but we do know that if AK makes a comeback in 2021, things are officially looking up.
