Ritchie rises to DDF Mark Fahy Memorial challenge

James Ritchie fired 44 points to claim the Dubai Duty Free — Mark Fahy Memorial Golf Tournament on Sunday at Dubai Hills Golf Club.
This event has been held since 2005 with the support of the Dubai Irish Golf Society in memory of Mark Fahy, a prominent figure within the Irish community in Dubai.
A full field of 96 players took on the Dubai Hills Challenge, with Ritchie posting nines of 26 and 18 points to take the Men’s Division title, one point ahead of Anthony Stroud.
Richard Cole took home the Gross Winner’s Trophy, while Laura Kirkham took the Ladies Division crown

El Chaib triumphs at The Els Club Ladies’ Open

Lara El Chaib’s three-over was enough to take the Els Club Ladies’ Open, edging out Jamie Camero by one stroke. The Net Division was won by Sara Ali in this ninth of 11 Emirates Golf Federation Ladies’ Order of Merit events.

UAE bring home medal haul from Bahrain

The UAE took home a haul of medals from the GCC Championship at Royal Golf Club in the Bahraini capital, Manama. Six teams from across the GCC took part, including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and host Bahrain. After winning back-to-back Presidents Cups, Ahmad Skaik led the men’s team, and led from the front by winning the Individual Silver Medal. The UAE also won bronze in the team event and Under 18 team event.

Five step closer to Phuket at Al Hamra

Al Hamra Golf Club held its Race to Phuket qualifier on Sunday, allowing five participants to secure a spot for the UAE Final at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in September. With Tyrone Evans (Div 1), Andre Grove (2), Conor Freeman (3), Stamen Stantchev (4) and Ivan Kraemer (5) booking their spots.

Anders Kron claimed the OMA Emirates Monthly Medal at Dubai Creek, overcoming 69 other competitors to claim top spot. Christian Klynge took Division A, with Anish Bhatia securing Division B. The Ladies Division was won by Tatiana Ganina. After Round 3, Bhatia leads the order of Merit with with 245 points.

Mullane shines at Els Club Men’s Open

Jay Mullane claimed the Els Club Men’s Open in a closely fought competition over 36 holes. Mullane’s 71-72 scores took him to one-under for the tournament, two ahead of Anders Axelsson. The Net Division was won by Vivaan Chhibber

Noja keeps up strong run on LET

Dubai wonderkid Chiara Noja kept up her strong run on her first full season on the Ladies European Tour with an impressive third place at the Investec South African Women’s Open. The German 16-year-old shot a course record on the opening day at Steenberg Golf Club, but eventually had to settle for third behind major winner Ashleigh Buhai and Ana Pelaez Trivino. German Noja has already followed up her famous victory in the Aramco Team Series — Jeddah individual event with a T11 in Morocco and a stunning T12 in the star-studded Aramco Saudi Ladies international. Noja moves up to eighth place in the LET season-long Race to Costa del Sol.

David Bainbridge claimed top spot in the Men’s Division of the Jumeirah Golf Estates Club Championships, finishing just ahead of Raghav Malik.
Anca Mateiu won the Ladies’ Division and Junior Division, while Sheila McIlroy claimed the Ladies’ Net Division. James Finnigan took the Senior Division

Selvaraj shines at Saadiyat Beach Men’s Open

Jonathan Selvaraj triumphed in the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club Men’s Open by one stroke fro Rami Samawi over 36 holes. Subhash Bhatia took the Net Division from Amir Rehman and Jerome Martin.

UAE medal haul at GCC Championship in Bahrain includes individual silver medal for Ahmad Skaik

The UAE took home a haul of medals from the GCC Championship at Royal Golf Club in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

The 2023 GCC Golf Championship is the 25th edition for the men and the 14th edition for the Under-18s.

Six teams from across the GCC took part, including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and host Bahrain.

After winning back-to-back Presidents Cups, Ahmad Skaik led the men’s team, and led from the front by winning the Individual Silver Medal.

Along with Skaik, Khalifa Al Masaood, Hasan Al Musharrekh, and Saif Al Hadrami won the Team Bronze Medal for the UAE.

The Under-18 team of Rashid Al Jassmy, Rashid Al Naqbi and Mohammad Skaik brought home the team Bronze Medal.In the Men’s Division, Qatar had a strong GCC Championship capturing back-to-back Team and Individual Gold Medals. Second place was the Bahrain team, and the UAE men’s team came back home with the bronze medal.

Saleh Alkaabi of Qatar won the Individual Gold Medal ahead of Skaik.

On to Dubai: Sweden deny US to win World Amateur Team title

Sweden look like the team to beat in Dubai as they held off a US rally to claim the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship title in Paris.

Earlier this year, the International Golf Federation announced the UAE as hosts of the 2023 World Amateur Team Championships in October, and Sweden stamped their names as favourites as they bagged the Espirito Santo Trophy this time around. 2023 will mark the first time the event, which dates back to 1958, will be held in the Middle East.

The competition came down to the final hole, but the US couldn’t complete an impressive charge on Saturday as Sweden captured the gold medal in France.

The Americans, who trailed Germany by four at the start of the day in the 72-hole event, held a one-stroke lead with World No. 1 Rose Zhang standing on the 18th tee after she made birdie on 17 at Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche. But Zhang missed the green with her approach and could not get up and down. With both teams finishing at 13-under, that led to a tie, with Sweden identified as the winner when the non-counting scores had Sweden’s Louise Rydqvist shooting 73 against American Rachel Kuehn’s 74.

“There is obviously that tinge of disappointment,” Zhang said. “On that last putt, I actually hit a really good putt exactly where I wanted, but it just didn’t go in the hole. It was disappointing to end that way, but I am really proud of how we fought back on the last day.”

Zhang shot three-under 69 and teammate Rachel Heck scored 70. Sweden was led by world No. 2 Ingrid Lindblad’s 69 and Meja Ortengren’s 70.

The gold was the first medal for Sweden in the event since they earned bronze in 2012.

Troon International to manage Middle East ‘flagship venue’ Yas Links

Yas Links will join Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club as Troon-managed venues in the UAE capital

Troon’s influence in the Middle East golf industry has just been underlined with the global course management giant adding celebrated Yas Links in Abu Dhabi to its regional portfolio.

The Kyle Phillips-designed desert links, ranked 44th in the most recent Golf Digest Top 100 global rankings, becomes the 10th club in the UAE and 17th in total across the Middle East to fall under the management umbrella of Troon’s Dubai-based International division.

Opened to instant acclaim in 2010, Yas Links is owned by Aldar Properties PJSC. The decision to commission Troon’s management, marketing and development expertise is a logical step after Aldar acquired the already Troon-managed Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in 2018.

“Having seen the work that Troon has done with Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club over the years, we have been very impressed with their expertise in agronomy and general golf operations, which has developed these clubs into worldwide icons that feature on the Ladies’ and Men’s European Tours,” said Aldar Investments CEO Jassem Saleh Busaibe.

“It was logical for us to move Yas Links under the same management umbrella as these other two world-class Abu Dhabi clubs, forming the best trio of golf courses anywhere in the Middle East region. We look forward to growing our relationship with Troon International and seeing positive results.”

As well as the challenging 18-hole Championship course, Yas Links also boasts a nine-hole Par 3 academy course, floodlit practice facilities and luxurious clubhouse.

Yas Links’ imposing natural hazards are showcased on the 8th hole.
