The rolling fairways of the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates played host to the 24th annual Dubai Duty Free Seniors Cup on October 22.

With the temperatures cooling and the course in great shape, 40 players took to the field to vie for title.

The glory ultimately went to Anand Rajagopal with 44 points, recording a personal best gross score of 76. After the champion was crowned, it was on to the gross division, where in-form Club Captain Steve Drake fired a gross 72 to beat Gavin Ritchie on a better inward half.

Commenting on the tournament, Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice Chairman & CEO, Colm McLoughlin said: “We are delighted to host this event for the 24th year and I would like to congratulate all the winners. Thanks to the team at Jumeirah Golf Estates for ensuring a well-organised event and I am glad that everyone enjoyed the hospitality.”

In the 50+ Seniors Category, the ladies’ titles went to Yulia Golubeva, who recorded a strong round of 35 points, with Tauseef Khan firing a 43-point round to secure the Senior Gent’s Category for the year. Recognition also goes to Roma Khanna and Gavin Ritchie, who both came runner-up in the Senior Categories with rounds of 32 and 42 points respectively.

In the 65+ Super Seniors Category, the ladies’ victory went to Rosine Natali, and the gents’ victory was clinched by Eamon Foley on his travels from Ireland to the UAE.

The winner of the ladies’ nearest to the pin on hole 14 was won by Yulia Golubeva, and Amanda Williams won the ladies’ longest drive on hole seven. In the Gents contest, Eamon Foley won the nearest to the pin on hole 8 and David Haswell won the longest drive on hole 18.

Home course knowledge helped Dietmar Kacnik capture the 23rd edition of the Dubai Duty Free Seniors Cup on Saturday.

The Arabian Ranches Golf Club member won the Individual Stableford event with an impressive 41 points, one ahead of Dubai Hills Golf Club Shabir Yakub (10).

Kacnik coped best in the hot and humid conditions, posting an outward half of 23 points with five net birdies. He kept his cool on the back nine with a further 18 points, the only blemish coming at the 10th hole where he failed to trouble the scorers. Yakub’s consolation was victory in the Senior Division (50+) with his 40 points, three clear of Arabian Ranches’ Thomas Stumpp (7).

In the Super-Senior’s (65+) division, Emirates Golf Club’s Sultan Mahmood (16) triumphed by four points from Arabian Ranches member T.R Vijayan (17) who finished on 33 points.

Jumeirah Golf Estates’ Mark McNeilly captured the gross prize. The +2-handicapper cared a one-over 73 in a round that included birdies at the 3rd and the 8th hole.

“This year marks the 23rd running of Dubai Duty Free Senior’s Cup and the tournament has concluded what has been a good year to date, for Dubai Duty Free,” said Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman & CEO of Dubai Duty Free. “Our thanks to all our (32) participants and to the Arabian Ranches Golf Club for their efforts in ensuring a great day was had by all.”
