The LPGA closes out its 2017 season with a stretch of six straight tournaments in five countries concluding with the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Fla. And Michelle Wie hopes to be a fixture on leader boards for all of them.

The 27-year-old, who has sat out the last six weeks recovering from surgery for an appendectomy, is set to return at this week’s KEB Hana Bank Championship in South Korea, the first of five events in Asia.

The emergency procedure in August caused Wie to withdraw from the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open (she had the operation in Ottawa). She was forced to miss the year’s final major, the Evian Championship, last month and says she only began hitting full shots a few days before flying from the U.S. to Asia for this week’s stop.

It appears from her latest social media post that she’s still working her way back into game shape:

For much of the time she spent recuperating from the procedure, Wie said she wasn’t allowed to pick up anything heavier than 10 pounds. Even so, Wie contends she’ll be ready to go when play begins on Ocean Course at SKY72 Golf & Resort in Incheon.

“I’m just going to try and be patient with myself and take it easy out there and just try to manage how I feel and what not,” Wie said.

She’ll be facing some stiff competition as 15 of the top 16 ranked players in the world will be playing (only Inbee Park will be missing due to injury). The strong field comes despite the heightened political tensions between the U.S. and North Korea.

Wie hasn’t won since her 2014 U.S. Women’s Open triumph, but her 2017 season has been impressive. Wie had six top-five finishes in 18 starts, and moved from No. 186 on the Rolex Rankings in February to No. 31 entering the South Korea event.

Michelle Wie withdrew from the LPGA’s Canadian Pacific Women’s Open on Sunday and announced through her management team, IMG, that she was undergoing surgery this afternoon to remove her appendix.

Wie was tied for 23rd, six strokes behind leaders Mo Martin and Nicole Broch Larsen after rounds of 71-68-70 at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. A week earlier, she went 1-2-0 while playing for the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup team.

Thus far in 2017, Wie has had seven top-10 finishes in 17 starts and sits 30th on the Rolex Rankings. In July, she had to withdraw during the second round of the U.S. Women’s Open at Trump National Bedminster due to muscle spasms in her neck. In her next two starts, she finished tied for 19th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and tied for third at the Ricoh Women’s British Open

Here is the statement Wie’s management group, IMG:

Vaughn Ridley

By Keely Levins
South Korea’s Sung Hyun Park, who won the U.S. Women’s Open earlier this summer, shot a final-round 64 at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club to win the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open by two strokes over Mirim Lee.

The 23-year-old Park, a standout on the Korean LPGA playing the event for the first time, overcame a four-shot deficit on the final day to finish with a four-day total of 13-under-par 271. Park’s 64 was the second-lowest round of the week behind Canadian Brooke Henderson, who shot 63 in front of her home crowd to set a new course record.

Though Park played in several LPGA events in 2016, this is her first official season on the tour. She’s played in 17 events, and has made the cut in each one. The win at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open marks her second of the season after the Women’s Open earlier at Trump National Bedminster.

“I think it was a perfect game today,” Park said after her round. “Everything was—there were no mistakes today, and I think it was perfect.”

After all of the energy expended by the top American and European players at the Solheim Cup last week, it’s not entirely surprising that the winner was a player coming off of a rest week. Cristie Kerr, however, was able to keep the momentum up after a dominant performance in the Solheim Cup. She and Marina Alex were the top Americans, finishing as part of a five-way tie for third.

Michelle Wie, one of Kerr’s Solheim Cup teammates, withdrew from the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open before the final round began, saying in a statement she’s undergoing appendix surgery.
