Golf fans will be able to relive Rory McIlroy’s epic career grand-slam clinching Masters victory, and everything that came before it, in a new Prime Video documentary dropping on March 30. The perfect appetiser for the Northern Irishman’s title defence just two weeks later.
In the trailer, which hit social media on Wednesday morning, a young McIlroy is asked “what do you want to do when you grow up?”, to which he replied “to win all the majors.”
Of course, it took him much longer than anyone thought to accomplish the remarkable feat, with the Masters continually being the tournament that eluded him. It remained astonishing year after year when you consider the fact that not only was he in the final group in just his third-ever trip to Augusta National in 2011, he led by four shots.
We all remember what happened next, and it appears as though that will be well-documented in the doc, which is titled “Rory McIlroy: The Masters Wait.” It should be noted that McIlroy’s newly formed Firethorn Productions company helped produce it with Amazon.
That said, in the two minute and 14 seconds trailer, McIlroy does seem to give us a nice peak behind the curtain, stating, in reference to his 2011 collapse, “I just don’t think I was ready.” He also sounds choked up towards the end of the trailer discussing the many ups and downs he’s experienced on the hallowed grounds of Augusta National.
