The DP World Tour arrived in China for the start of the Asian Swing at the Hainan Classic presented by MAEXTRO.

Co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the China Tour, the tournament returned for the second consecutive year and featured an innovative format. A field of 120 international professionals and 120 amateurs competed, with one professional and one amateur forming a team across the opening two rounds split between the Blackstone and Vintage courses at Mission Hills Haikou. Both professionals and amateurs used buggies over the first two days, with no prize money awarded for the team element. An individual stroke play competition ran concurrently, with the top 65 and ties at the halfway stage progressing to the Blackstone course for the final 36 holes. The total prize fund was US$2.55 million, with 3,500 Race to Dubai points available.

Major Champion, Ryder Cup player and Rolex Series winner Francesco Molinari looked to build on a promising start to his DP World Tour season, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January. Fellow multiple DP World Tour winner Dan Bradbury was the highest-ranked player in the field on the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World, sitting fourth, while Andy Sullivan, Calum Hill, Nacho Elvira, Freddy Schott and Angel Ayora were also among the top 15 and in action. France’s Martin Couvra was another name to watch as he aimed to recapture the form that earned him the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award the previous season. The event brought together international talent while highlighting emerging stars from Asia and China. Among the local contingent were Wenyi Ding and Yanhan Zhou, who joined the DP World Tour this season after winning last year’s China Tour Order of Merit. Five-time DP World Tour winner Ashun Wu was also part of a strong Chinese line-up.
