Rickie Fowler. Richard Heathcote

Now the fun begins. After two days of sorting through the pretenders and contenders at the US Open, with Los Angeles Country Club producing the lowest cutline in championship history, the on-course drama ramps up for Saturday’s third round. And the leaderboard has a little bit of everything.

Looking for a former star rekindling his former glory? How about Rickie Fowler? With a second-round 68 after a record-setting 62 on Thursday, the 34-year-old has a one-stroke lead. At 10-under overall, he’s just the third player to be double-digits under par after 36 holes, joining Rory McIlroy at Congressional in 2011 and Martin Kaymer at Pinehurst in 2014. Oh, and both McIlroy and Kaymer won those years, Kaymer, you might recall, finishing in first coincidentally ahead of Fowler.

Looking for an up-and-comer looking for a major breakout? How about Wyndham Clark? The 29-year-old claimed his first PGA Tour title last month and is playing LACC with a world of confidence as he prepares to join Fowler in the final twosome.

Looking for a future Hall of Famer trying desperately to win his first major in nine years? How about Rory McIlroy, who just keeps putting himself in position for major No. 5? One of these days he’s going to win it, isn’t he?!?

Looking for a top-10 player in the world trying to validate his place in the game with his first major? How about Xander Schauffele, who has never finished worse than 14th in his six US Open starts, including five top-10s?

Needless to say, a very entertaining weekend is potentially brewing. A total of 65 players made the cut at two-over. Below are the tee times for Saturday’s third round.
