The 33-year-old began the day five shots adrift of overnight leaders Bernd Wiesberger and Shaun Norris, but carded an eagle, four birdies and a bogey on his front nine to sit three off the pace.

Four birdies down the stretch reduced the deficit even further, Otaegui reaching 16 under par to shoot his lowest round of the year to date and move into pole position ahead of Sunday, as he aims to claim the UAE’s first victory on the DP World Tour.

Here’s the prize money breakdown for each golfer at the 2026 Volvo China Open

The past champion, having won the Volvo China Open in 2024, will look to claim his sixth DP World Tour title when he tees off in the final group at Enhance Anting Golf Club, and his first victory since he started representing the United Arab Emirates in November 2024.

He will be joined by Austrian Wiesberger, who carded a 68 to go three under for his third round.

The 40-year-old navigated some tricky pins to register four birdies and a bogey on his opening nine holes, while his back nine saw him even par – he picked up a shot at the tenth before dropping it again at the 15th.

Wiesberger finished the day 15 under par, three shots ahead of playing partner Norris, who recorded a 71.

The South African was one stroke ahead of Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey, who sits in fourth after a one under par 70. Sweden’s Mikael Lindberg and Frenchman Antoine Rozner share fifth place, having each produced a round of 65 to move to 10 under par.

Zihao Jin and Bo Peng are the best of the strong Chinese contingent on home soil, both sitting in a group of six at eight under par.
